FAQs

PocketSorted questions, answered

PocketSorted is a free UK website of affordability calculators. Here are straight answers on what it does, what it costs, how the calculators work and what happens to your numbers.

What is PocketSorted?

PocketSorted is a free UK website of affordability calculators. It shows the real monthly cost of a car, a home, a holiday, a savings goal or a new business — not just the payment — and whether it fits your take-home pay.

Is PocketSorted free?

Yes. Every calculator is free to use, with no sign-up. A free account lets you save a few results. The Result Pack and PocketSorted Journeys are optional paid extras.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can use every calculator without signing up. An account only matters if you want to save results, email them to yourself or use PocketSorted Assistant.

Is PocketSorted financial advice?

No. PocketSorted gives estimates and guidance so you can make your own decisions. It does not recommend products or tell you what to do. For regulated advice, speak to a qualified, FCA-authorised financial adviser.

Is PocketSorted a lender or a broker?

No. PocketSorted does not lend money, arrange finance or sell mortgages. It helps you work out what something really costs before you speak to a lender, broker or seller.

Which calculators does PocketSorted have?

Five: car (finance plus running costs), house (buying or renting, including stamp duty and bills), holiday (a monthly savings target), monthly savings (hit a goal by a date, with interest) and starting a business (break-even and the cash you need).

Does PocketSorted work across the UK?

Yes. The monthly costs work anywhere in the UK. Stamp duty in the house calculator uses the England and Northern Ireland rates; if you are buying in Scotland (LBTT) or Wales (LTT), enter the figure from the official calculator.

What does "real monthly cost" mean?

The payment plus everything that comes with it. For a car that is insurance, fuel or charging, road tax, servicing, MOT and tyres. For a home it is council tax or rates, energy, water, broadband, insurance and upkeep.

How accurate are the results?

They are estimates based on the figures you enter and standard repayment formulas. Real quotes depend on your credit history, the lender and the deal, so replace the starting figures with your own as soon as you have them.

Does the car calculator work for PCP?

Not exactly. It assumes a standard repayment loan or hire purchase with no final balloon payment. For PCP, use the monthly figure from your quote and add the running costs.

What is the Result Pack?

A one-off £4.99 purchase that turns one result into a printable plan with your full breakdown and a step-by-step action checklist. It is yours to keep and there is no subscription.

What is a PocketSorted Journey?

A pay-once plan giving full PocketSorted Assistant access for 3, 6 or 12 months: your income and outgoings saved once, unlimited printable plans, renewal reminders and "can I afford this and that?" planning. See Plans for current prices.

Does my Journey renew automatically?

No. You pay once and that is it — no subscription and no surprise direct debits. We email you before it ends so you can decide whether to carry on.

What do you do with my numbers?

Your figures are stored securely and only used to run your calculations. We never sell your data, and you can delete your account and everything in it whenever you like.

How do referrals work?

Every account has a personal link. When a friend buys a PocketSorted Journey through it, you get an extra free month on your journey, added to your account automatically.
